Research and development: Theorists

To help with my research, I will look at examples of media theorist who access the effects and traditions used within Magazines.

Laura Mulvey- A British theorist who specializes in Films, but has also done work on Magazines. An example of this would be her debating the topic is the Male Gaze still dominating magazine content. The male gaze being the theory of Women being made visually pleasing for men.

I will incorporate this into my magazine by not having the images within it that present Men or Women in a demeaning light. The Male Gaze is not seen within classical music magazines as the main focus of this style is the music rather than the appearance of the composer or musician. Therefore, they receive praise because of their talent rather than what they look like.

David Gauntlett- a British sociologist and media theorist. Gauntlett's specialist study is contemporary media audiences, this includes the digital media used for making and sharing information. It also includes the role of such media in self-identity and self-expression. His theory assumes that audience members are not passive consumers of media. He began his career using traditional forms of media to share information like books and live lectures. Now a days he believes that using online forms of communication like E magazines and Blogs.

During the creation of my magazine, I will use online tools to help me create it. To help me see what topics to use within my magazine I will create a public survey, link available in my blog. Furthermore the use of this blog is a good way to advertise my magazine as people from all over the world are able to read my blog.
